Brian started training in the martial arts in 1975, at the age of nine, when he and his brother joined the local Judo club in Godley, near Hyde. His future in Judo, however was not to be ,and he left the club after a year, He gave Boxing a try, but never realy took to it either !. So when he received a call from his cousin asking for him to join a nearby Karate club (Hollingworth  Shotokan Karate International club ) with her, for moral support , he jumped at the chance , and after a couple of lessons he was hooked , he joined the club, along with his brother and cousin, and in 1986 he attained his First Dan grade, awarded by Sensei Shiro Asano ( 9th Dan ) . He continued training in Shotokan for many years , But dabbled in other styles also, always looking for the one style that would eventually win him over. Then one day he noticed that a sign for a new karate club that was opening up near by, “ Ashihara Karate “, He had never heard of this style, and was interested in finding out more!, He arrived early on the day the club opened for students, and was so impressed by the potential of the style ,he joined the club that week, and in 2002 was awarded “Shodan” in Ashihara Karate, by Sensei Barry Rutter ( Chief Instructor of Ashihara U.K. ).In Febuary 2005 he attained the rank of “Nidan” .
